Fried Chicken!

Today, is the fundraiser for the Volunteer Fire Dept. (For those who don't know, Brian is a Volunteer Fireman.) I'm excited for them, the vast majority of town shows up and contributes. There is a fried chicken dinner and a live auction. They do well each year to help with the costs of running and maintaining the fire department, which we want to stay in ship-shape, for every one's well being. Yesterday, quite a few people showed up to chop veggies, mix rice salad, and get the hall ready for today's influx of people. Today, more of the department will show to serve food, fry unimaginable quantities of chicken and to run the auction. Personally, I am already exhausted from yesterday, but WE MUST PRESS ONWARD! ;)

I am happy to say that Tabitha had her twin girls the other day! I hear that all is well with mom and babies, this is truly a blessing from God.

patience...

Last week, I put a book on hold at the library. Whomever had it out, checked it out again! So, instead of waiting a week, now it is two. I did what any red-blooded American would do; I ordered it on Amazon. What gets me is that it said "can be shipped by July 7th." "WOO, HOO!" I said. I was sorely mistaken, it won't arrive until the 12th. It was shipped on the 5th; I guess they held up their end of the bargain. So much for my patience, huh?

I am a Chevrolet Corvette! What are you?

I am a Chevrolet Corvette!

You're a classic - powerful, athletic, and competitive. You're all about winning the race and getting the job done. While you have a practical everyday side, you get wild when anyone pushes your pedal. You hate to lose, but you hardly ever do.

I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT!!!!!! FINALLY!

The other day my brother and sister-in-law called, M answered the phone and all I saw and heard was her jumping up and down and squealing, "Really? Really? I'm going to have a new baby cousin?" Of course, I was grabbing for the phone, in utter shock, I might add!

The news: Sidney and Stephanie are expecting!!! She is eight weeks along and just starting to have a little bump (as Sid puts it). They are ecstatic! The baby's room is practically done already! (just exaggerating) But they have started working on it. He subscribed to a weekly email from www.babycenter.com and at eight weeks it said they only had 224 days to go. Yikes, only 224 days! In pregnancy speak, that's forever. As my friend, Tabitha, pointed out recently, the last few weeks seem to last longer that the entire pregnancy! By the way, she is due in just over one week with twins! But I feel, and advise, that Stephanie will relish each day of this pregnancy; I could see her glowing over the phone!

Needless to say, I guess, I don't know how to be an aunt. I've seen it, but... Karin says it's kind of what grandparents do: take the children, spoil them, buy them things and send them home. Hmm, I think that would be nice! I absolutely can't wait! I look forward to taking care of my new niece/nephew!! I'll keep you posted.

Finally an aunt,
Sheila

No Mommy of the Year Award here!

I guess I won't win the mother of the year award... Late yesterday afternoon, I realized that C's hair cut appointment was earlier in the day; when I was being lazy, ie. napping, reading. The bad thing is that M comforted her by saying, "It's ok, she forgot mine, too." Yes, a few weeks ago I was on a mission running errands and found that it was time for her hair appointment while we were 30 minutes out of town. But Brian had the gall to ask the kids if mommy forgot about her own hair appointment just last week!!! (In case you didn't figure it out, I did not forget my appointment.)

FYI: I have made ammends with the beautician and set up another appointment for next week.

Well, I guess I will make up for forgotten appointments tomorrow. They have actually been excited about their dental appointment and I set two different alarms/alerts on my cell phone to remind me. Hopefully, all will be well at the dentist!

Frio Trip

On Thursday, June 26th, we set out on our four hour drive to Concan. It has become our annual get-a-way with nine of our closest friends. We finally found a place this year to house all 13 of us comfortably, with room to move. The house was absolutely beautiful! I think I heard almost everyone comment on either how nice it was or how they would love to live there. At this type of place you must bring EVERYTHING, from toilet paper to your blanket. It seemed as though we were packing too much, but you need it all. You wouldn't believe the amount of drinks we brought, four days worth of water, gatorade, sodas, but we drank most of it.

This year the adults decided to rent and bring a margarita machine, instead of someone standing in the kitchen playing bartender. It worked out nicely. We found out that if it got plugged in too long, it got too cold; at that point we had soft-serve margaritas that we had to "drink" with a spoon!

The Hill Country hasn't had much rain in MONTHS. The river was so low that even the low water crossings had NO WATER on them! Tubing the river was out of the question. People who attempted it seemed to be miserable from walking the majority of the way dragging tubes, kids, and coolers behind them.

We played it smart this year and found a few "holes" to settle in and play. We brought lawn chairs, lunch, snacks, drinks, adult beverages and stayed for several hours. At Garner, the kids had a ball making dams, trying to catch minnows with crackers and their nets, and checking out the underwater world with their goggles. At another location on the Frio, they actually brought their fishing poles. As far as I know, only C. caught a fish that was "lellow with an orange tail."

All in all, we had a terrific time. We sat down and decided on the dates for next year's excursion but the company we rented from doesn't open the rental book for next year until October.

Hopefully, we will be going to Hawaii, too. (I know this sounds like a spoiled brat...) We haven't been in a few years, Brian and I are going into withdrawl! :) In May, nine of his family members went and I practically had to tie him to the house! He was researching tickets and condos, etc. to go within the month. I know how he feels, you just get this bug to travel and it won't let go until you do. Thankfully, we had a trip planned with Jason and Cindy to San Francisco the week Brian's family was to return. I think that helped the with the travel bug. By the way, we had an awesome time in San Fran and both of us want to return in the future.

I have to go teach at Vacation Bible School, we start in 30 minutes and no one has eaten, gotten ready, as a matter of fact one child is still asleep! Where did the morning go!!!!

Until Later,
Sheila
